Another 5 month gap

So I am not much of an avid blogger, yikes.

Some highlights since February:

345lb conventional DL at 160lbs BW.
maintained BW of 160-162.
160lb barbell row.
tearing half decks of dollar store playing cards.
double KB work.
I can do KB snatches with no hand protection, and not tear up my skin!
bought and made a lot of great equipment: grip stuff, deadlift platform, weight tree
attended April and June RKC victim days--met the main man Pavel, and learned some great stuff from my RKC candidate.

That should keep me covered until my next post in December.

2/24/2010

I abandoned this site about as quickly as I started it. I keep a thorough training log, but haven't reviewed back to September in a while. It's funny that I happened upon this blog today--my last post is about my first time ever deadlifting.

Last night, I pulled 305 for 4 or 5 singles. I weigh 160. That's encouraging to see, at least for me.

I will have to review my log to see how many sessions of DL I have done since September--if I had to guess, it's less than 10. 50 lbs with minimal direct focus on it is not too shabby. My current goal is double bodyweight, so around 320 or so. Once I hit that, I am certain the rate of progress will never again be 50 pounds at a time, but that's OK for me.

Maybe I will keep this site a bit more current.....

Deadlifting

I felt like junk yesterday, so decided to take a day off. It felt weird, but I'm glad I saved some energy.

I trained with Fawn this morning (8am) and we jumped right into barbell deadlifts. I have never done them before, so I was a total blank slate. She started me off with 135, and added 10's, then 25s, etc...and worked up to 255. I got 2 or 3 reps at 255, but had a little twinge in my back. I'm pretty sure my form was ugly, but for my first day doing it, I felt good. 255 @ 179BW...a little under 1.5x my weight. Cool for day one.

Then we did some see-saw presses with 16s, some lat pull downs, and a few other lat-focused drills so I could start to learn how to work them a little harder. We finished up with some TGU practice with an 8kg. Trying to refine my movements...slow and steady.

Awesome training day so far. If I am not sore later/tomorrow, I will be pumped.

9/25 training

vo2 Max work.

16kg bell, 6 reps for 50 rounds. Hands felt banged up, and by round 20 I was gassed. I hit a stride from about 25-40, and really wanted to beat my last PR of 46, so I cruised to 50.

Last set on my right hand was weird--on the drops, I felt a click/pop in my wrist. It wasn't painful, but I am sure I was modifying my grip to save my hands, and it obviously was poor form. Good thing I stopped when I did. Wrist feels fine afterwards.

Feel pretty sore, but...

I decided to work some presses.

I grabbed the 16kg and did 4 ladders, 3 rungs each. Felt good. I focused on power breathing, tensing my abs and butt, and really worked the negatives, especially on my weaker left arm.

Glad I decided against the off day.

I am thinking Max VO2 tomorrow, 50-60 reps I hope, then re-do this ladder scheme on Saturday with the 20kg. Take it easy Sunday, maybe some swings and getups just to move and loosen up...want to be fresh for my first deadlift lesson at The Press 8am Monday. Just keep swimming just keep swimming...

Finally decided to start one of these things
